Details of the Day

  • The No. 1 Camaro suffered some minor damage to the left front on lap 60 after cutting a right rear tire, spinning out and making contact with the No. 62 car
  • Following the final caution of the day, Kurt Busch was leading the race. When the one-lap to go call was made, indicating the race was going green, the team came down pit road to top-off with fuel and take four new tires. As soon as Busch pulled in for service, NASCAR displayed the red-flag because of severe weather in the area
  • Busch was one of five Team Chevy drivers to finish in the top-10 today at DIS
  • The race was red-flagged for nearly an hour. An attempt to restart the race was halted once again for a severe weather alert
  • The second severe weather event with lightning and rain ultimately led to the race being called official after 127 of 160 scheduled laps

Kurt Busch, No. 1 Global Poker Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 – “I feel like we were in a really good position to win the race and it’s just a matter of when the one random lightning bolt comes down to decide when you make the call. It was a judgment call on their (NASCAR) part. I think we did pretty good to finish tenth considering everything that went on with the damage that we had from earlier in the race. It was a different race because the manufacturers were working together and then the handling aspect. At Talladega you could hold it wide open pretty easy. At Daytona you’re slipping and sliding and you’re trying to stay teamed-up with the guys that you want to be with. So, today was definitely more challenging”.
